Textile shearing blades have been produced in Aachen since 1840. Production moved from England to Belgium and Aachen. The first production plant in the imperial city of Aachen be-longed to Sieberts & Hanith. In 1859, Johann Joseph SCHLENTER took over the plant and founded J. SCHLENTER & Cie. Up until 1861, production took placed in Aachen city centre in the Annuntiatenbach area. A little later, the production location at Jakobstor Weiße Mühle was mentioned for the first time in the records of the Imperial Police.
Johann Joseph SCHLENTER died in 1884 in the course of his efforts to help to extinguish the Great Fire of Aachen. His eldest son Joseph SCHLENTER (born in 1869) took over the business at the age of just 15. His brother Fritz SCHLENTER (born in 1871) followed him into the business 6 years later. The two brothers pushed the sale of textile and leather shearing blades in Eastern and Southern Europe and America. Around the turn of the century, they built a larger factory in Augustastraße. The company is still located in this area today. In 1927, Friedrich Richard SCHLENTER entered the company as general manager. In 1929, Joseph SCHLENTER died and Friedrich Richard SCHLENTER succeeded him as personally liable partner. In 1934, Heinz Otto Krings joined the company. A few years later, he became the personally liable partner. Following the death of Friedrich Richard SCHLENTER, his son-in-law Gert Mauritz succeeded him. Mauritz managed the company until 1995. His successor is CEO Gerhard Wiemers, who is currently driving the expansion of exports to the Far East and China in particular.
Since the mid 1990s, SCHLENTER has been making a name for itself in contract manufactur-ing, prototype construction, and precision turned parts. Renowned companies trust in the com-petence of long-term employees who work with an extremely modern machine pool. Since 2008, the great grandchildren of the company's founder have played a supporting and advisory role on the SCHLENTER management team. Together, the management team is working to further develop this long-standing Aachen-based company. The machine pool will be further ex-tended in 2009.
